Introductions

Hi! My name is Tonya. I will be your teacher for this course. I live in Franklin, Massachusetts with my husband, Kent, and our five year old Doberman, Alma, who keeps me company now that my two daughters have moved out of the house. Besides teaching this class I have a consulting firm where we provide training for new Web Project Managers and help Web teams.

As a Website consultant I help Web teams that are struggling with projects that seem to control them rather than be managed. I also mentor new Web team leaders become Web Project Managers and I assess Web sites for small and medium businesses. In 1996 I founded a successful Web design business which was acquired by the Internet Service Provider where I had worked previously. I went on to become their Director of Web Operations and have held positions as Director of Marketing and Director of Web Operations at several high tech companies and at a technical university. I have consulted with numerous small businesses, political organizations, municipalities and colleges.

I passed the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional (PMP) exam and was a certified (PMP) from 2005-2010 although I didn’t pay to renew my certificate and therefore am not currently a certified PMP. I also have an MBA from Cornell’s Graduate Business School. I post a Web Project Tip of the Day on twitter at www.twitter/@TDPrice and blog about Web Project Management at www.tonyaprice.com.

I am very excited to be your teacher and am looking forward to a great class. Please email me or leave a comment if you have any questions at any time.

Okay, now you know a little about me. Please share with us your background, the type of organization you work for, why you are taking this course and what you hope to learn during the class.

  1. Glenn Jackson

    Hi everyone,

Thanks Tonya for offering this course. Really looking forward to it. My name is Glenn and I have owned a fairly successful, and at times a way too busy, web design and development company for the last 16 years. I pretty much did everything – design, program, code, manage, update – for a client. This included managing myself. I did however outsource quite a bit. My main target market was small businesses.

I’m at a point in life where I want to manage. I am fed up with companies not having the expertise to manage, or even know what they want. Projects I would be working on would easily get out of hand because the person I’m dealing with doesn’t know a thing about the web.

I’m closing my design company and creating a new consulting business to provide web project management services (plus evaluations, audits and RFP services) for mid to large sized companies without in-house web PM expertise.

I’m looking forward to this course because I don’t have a ‘formal’ training in WPM. Since I had to basically know everything in my previous role, I didn’t take the time for PM and I made it up as I went.

    Should be fun…
